Past Projects
Over the past decade, the CHM team has participated in a variety of correctional healthcare projects across the country.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
2013 – Present
Our team has provided ongoing expert medical services to CDCR and the California Attorney General’s office since 2013. In this capacity we have provided assessments of onsite / direct care services, participated in Inspector General reviews, participated in clinical delivery systems improvements and individual case reviews.
California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation
2017 – 2018
Our team provided CDCR Mental Health Services with a comprehensive review of the state’s staffing for psychiatrist, psychologist and social workers. This analysis was part of the state’s ongoing Coleman litigation and serviced to advise that state on projected staffing needs based on the clinical demands of the system and CDCR Program Guide for the delivery of mental health services.
Wake County Detention Center
2022 — 2023
Our team performed a comprehensive review of all medical, dental, and mental health services. We developed an offender medical/mental health plan with corresponding policies and procedures necessary to achieve the goals outlined in the proposed plan.
Jackson County Corrections
2020
Our team worked with the Jackson County Corrections Department to design the medical center of a new jail facility. We assessed the jail’s future medical and mental health demands, determined bed allocations for medical and mental health, and designed an expanded telemedicine program for jail offenders.
Current Projects
San Diego County Sheriff's Department
Our team is working with the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and their outside counsel in defense of the class action lawsuit, Dunsmore v. San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, related to medical, dental, and mental health services delivered by their contracted healthcare provider.
State of Michigan
Our team is developing a comprehensive profile of the state’s current healthcare system. We are preparing a summary of existing healthcare and contract models used in other states. We are developing a framework for assessment of alternative approaches to inmate healthcare. We are putting together a draft request for proposal for the Michigan Department of Corrections review.
State of North Carolina
Our team is assessing the likely clinical acuity challenges confronting the system in the mid and long-term. We are working with the Department of Corrections to predict future populations of each clinical category in order to anticipate future bed capacity and staffing needs. We are assessing the internal processes used in each clinical review with a focus on the policies, procedures, and practices that impact the clinical evaluation process and a determination if these elements are in alignment with the unique characteristics of each clinical category.
Federal Bureau of Prisons Correctional Complex
Our team is managing the long‐term care services for the Federal Bureau of Prisons Correctional Complex. We are providing inmate patients access to long‐term care services and sub‐specialty providers. This allows for a fluid and clinically appropriate transition of patients from a hospital level of care to a long‐term care facility and then back to the bureau.
